• Twenty-four ATP World Tour stars will take the hard courts of the Rexall Centre Wednesday as the second round of the Rogers Cup wraps up - among them, Top 4 stars Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, who have accounted for the last three titles.

• The first match on Stadium is No. 6 seed Juan Martin del Potro against Czech Republic native Radek Stepanek; while most of the attention was on the gold medal match at the Olympics last week, del Potro was shining in the bronze medal match, beating Djokovic for Argentina’s first and so far only medal of this year’s Olympics; now he opens his Rogers Cup campaign against Stepanek, a veteran with 22 Top 10 wins to his name, but he is 0-5 against the elite this year and in the pair’s last meeting del Potro cruised to a straight set win. This is also a likely Davis Cup semi-final preview next month when Argentina hosts the Czech Republic in Buenos Aires.

•  Next up is No. 3 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga against Jeremy Chardy, an all-French battle; Canada is a special place for Tsonga, as he has reached the semi-finals in his only two previous appearances at this tournament, in 2009 and 2011 - in fact, this is one of only two ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments he has been to the semi-finals or better twice at (also Paris); the French No. 1 has won nine of his last 10 matches with fellow Frenchman and beat Chardy in straight sets in their only previous encounter.

• Next up is No. 2 seed Andy Murray against Italian qualifier Flavio Cipolla; Murray is coming off what is perhaps his most meaningful title, Olympic gold - and he took out the ATP World Tour’s Top 2 players to do it, Djokovic in the semi-finals and Roger Federer in the final; now just three days later he will open his campaign in Canada, where he has been twice a champion, in 2009 and 2010 - but he lost his opening match in 2011 and will try to rebound from that in this first-time ATP World Tour-level meeting.

• At night, top seed and World No. 2 Novak Djokovic faces Australia’s Bernard Tomic; Djokovic had a disappointing finish to his Olympic campaign last week - after battling through to the semi-finals he lost to Murray in straight sets, then lost to del Potro in the bronze medal match in straight sets too, his first time losing back-to-back matches in straight sets in almost three and a half years (since he was beaten in straight sets in two matches in a Davis Cup tie with Spain in March 2009); but he is 2-0 head-to-head against Tomic.

• On the Grandstand, there are four matches and among the eight players in action are two Top 10 players (No. 7 Tomas Berdych, No. 9 Janko Tipsarevic), three former Top 10 players (Tommy Haas, Gilles Simon, Mikhail Youzhny) and three more ATP World Tour stars (Kei Nishikori, Julien Benneteau, Sam Querrey).
